Limbe: Human Casualties, Huge Material Damages Recorded

W ednesday August 5, 2026 will forever remain engraved in the minds of Limbe residents as the black day where a pregnant woman and two others were killed by landslide following persistent torrential rainfall in the city. As the affected family at Mbende neighbourhood still mourns the untimely passing of their love ones, the family head who survived from the collapsed house is still under intensive medical care at the Limbe Regional Hospital. Apart from the human casualties, signi­ ficant material and infrastructural da­ mages were also recorded. According to the SDO of Fako, Viang Mekala, the com­ mission to evaluate and assess the da­ mages of the Limbe deadly floods and landslide noticed that five other houses collapsed in the Busumbu neighbou­ rhood. This brings the total to six house that collapsed following the heavy downpour, thereby leaving many fami­ lies homeless. The commission also noticed the des­ truction of several infrastructure in the city. Road network and bridges were se­ verely affected, rendering mobility wi­ thin the city difficult. Also, the fence of the Limbe Wildlife Centre was partially destroyed by the flash floods.
