North West: Progressively Joining the Train

Administrative authorities remain on alert regarding disciplinary issues and drugs, while school continues smoothly in several towns across the region.

S tudents, pupils, staff and pa­ rents are braving the insecure environment imposed by the non-State armed separatist fighters to go to school in the North West Region. Since the start of the 2026/2027 academic year, the school attendance situation is gra­ dually improving in many parts of the region. On Wednesday, September 9, 2026 which was third day of the school year, the situation in the Secondary Education sector was remarkable. The North West Regional Delegate of Secondary Education, Baijong Eze­ kiel Ndifon disclosed that there were 13, 291 students in attendance in 80 schools in the six of the seven Divisions of the North West Region. He said the only division that did not register a student on Wednesday was Menchum Division likely because of the armed terrorist attack on the Government Teachers Training Col­ lege Wum on Tuesday, September 8, 2026 in which the Senior Super­ intendent of Police, Mbah Tobie Da­ mase was killed and five teachers including the School Principal ab­ ducted and taken to an unknown destination.
