African Medical Centre of Excellence : Cameroon Provides Land

Under the supervision of the Prime Minister, Head of Government, Joseph Dion Ngute, a convention handing over 10 hectares of land to the African Export-Import Bank (Afreximbank) for the construction of an African medical centre of excellence has been signed. It was signed by the Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Célestine Ketcha Courtès and the General Manager of Urban and Rural Land Development and Equipment Authority (MAETUR), Louis Manga Roger, on March 26, 2026 at the Star Building. The Minister of Housing and Urban Development then officially handed over the document to the President of Afreximbank, George Elombi, under the watchful eyes of the Prime Minister.

Giving details of the event, Minister Célestine Ketcha Courtès said it was the conclusion of the signing of an agreement with MAETUR and the transfer of 10 hectares to Afreximbank for an innovative, gigantic project for Cameroon. “It is a health centre of excellence that will bring to Yaounde not only health technicians, doctors, professors from other continents, but also Africans. It is about Africa taking its turn, and this project will not only create jobs but also keep our patients at home while developing the surrounding areas such as the Yaounde-Nsimalen airport corridor, as desired by the President of the Republic,” she explained. She added that the Head of State, with the aim of addressing housing issues, launched this programme of 10,000 homes, and MAETUR took her and officials of Afreximbank to the various existing sites.
