Sports Performance: Government Salutes Excellence

Minister Mouelle Kombi chaired a ceremony on May 26, 2026 in Yaounde to honour Cameroonian athletes who won medals in recent international competitions.

On Tuesday May 26, 2026, the Yaounde Multipurpose Sports Complex was a real avenue where sporting excellence in diverse disciplines was celebrated. The complex hosted the ceremony in honour of Cameroonian athletes who made the nation proud by winning medals in recent international competitions. The Minister of Sports and Physical Education, Narcisse Mouelle Kombi, chaired this important event that brought together athletes from 13 sports federations such as athletics, judo, boxing, wrestling, and handball, just to mention a few. Before delving into his speech, the Minister of Sports and Physical Education paid homage to the memory of the late President of the Cameroon National Olympic and Sports Committee, Hamad Kalkaba Malboum, who passed away recently. Then it was time to give honour where it was due. Minister Mouelle Kombi disclosed that in the first five months of this year, Cameroonian athletes have brought home close to 180 medals. He was clear to the athletes: “Through the resonance of the national anthem of Cameroon and the display of its flag, which wonderfully waved over the main arenas of the competitions, you have demonstrated, with perfect eloquence, that Cameroon remains and continues to be a nation of sport whose footprints are present in all sporting disciplines, even those that were once the exclusive domain of certain countries.” He added that the event aimed not only to salute sporting excellence, but also to encourage perseverance, patriotism, and the commitment of athletes who proudly represent the colours of Cameroon.
