Cameroon-Anglican Church: Evaluating Mutually-beneficial Partnership

R elations between the An- glican Church and the State of Cameroon yester- day August 4, 2026 came under review at the Presidency of the Republic, with prospects of fur- ther deepening the mutually-bene- ficial ties for better gain. This was during an audience the Minister, Se- cretary General at the Presidency Ferdinand Ngoh Ngoh granted, on behalf of the Head of State, to the visiting Archbishop of Canterbury, Her Grace Sarah Mullally. After visiting Buea in the South West, Douala in the Littoral and Yaounde in the Centre Region where she discussed with faithful, appraised field work done by the Anglican Church in Cameroon, cele- brated mass and held talks with some government officials, it was but logical for the Head of the An- glican Community to visit the hi- ghest office of the land. An oppor- tunity to deliberate on what she saw and heard throughout her stay in the country, pass across the mes- sage she brought to Cameroon and possibly fine-tune new areas of co- operation. The close to half an hour audience with President Paul Biya’s repre- sentative therefore gave her and the host the opportunity to eva- luate the path covered and what could change in the short, medium and long terms. Talking to the press after the audience, the visibly ela- ted Archbishop of Canterbury, Her Grace Sarah Mullally, thanked Ca- meroon and the Head of State for the cordiality shown her and her de- legation all through their pastoral visit here. “I first of all relayed my gratitude to the President for his hospitality for having been received here today. I wanted the President to know that I saw an Anglican Church that is deep in faith, widening compassion and also seeking peace,” she said.
