Fight Against Terrorism: Cameroon Restates Peacekeeping Operations

T he commitments of Cameroon to peace and security within the sub region as well as in the coun­ try have been reiterated at the podium of the United Nations General Assem­ bly in New York. The statement of the President of the Republic, Paul Biya, which contains this vision and assu­ rances, was read by the Minister of Ex­ ternal Relations, Mbella Mbella on Sep­ tember 26, 2026. In this regard, the statement makes clear his plans of maintaining the country’s participation in United Nations peacekeeping ope­ rations, as well as the training and ca­ pacity building of African personnel called to serve in them. “I would like, in this regard, to commend the exem­ plary cooperation that Cameroon has with the United Nations in this field. I reaffirm in this regard the determina­ tion with which we will relentlessly pursue, together with the member States of the Lake Chad Basin Commis­ sion, the unremitting fight against ter­ rorism and the efforts to stabilize the areas around Lake Chad,” read Minister Mbella Mbella. At the national level, he stated that the government is committed to ensuring a return to normalcy in the North West and South West Regions. He added that the government's efforts to com­ bat insecurity and to socially reinte­ grate people willing to give up violence have already produced tangible and observable results on the ground.
