The AFCON qualifier will be the first international match for the Indomitable Lions after the World Cup and also the first gathering of some new players.
The Indomitable Lions of Cameroon will play against the Brave Warriors of Namibia in a double qualifier for the TotalEnergies AFCON 2024 in Côte d’Ivoire. The Lions will play against Namibia this Friday March 2024, 2023 before travelling to Johannesburg four days later for the return leg. That will be the first International match for the Lions since the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. Ahead of the encounter the Lions have been training at the Mundi Sports Complex in the suburbs of Yaounde. The venue is not new to the players as they are already used to the environment for the past two years.
For the double encounter against Namibia, the head coach of the Indomitable Lions has selected 24 players who will defend the colours of the country in the competition. The Lions began arriving in the country last weekend. Out of the 24 players chosen by the coach, Eric Maxim Choupo-Motin, Fai Collins and Karl Toko Ekambi are nursing injuries. Apart from that, Vincent Aboubakar will miss the first leg on Friday following a suspension during the group stage match at the 2022 FIFA World Cup. A cultural show has been programmed to take place at the stadium before the kick off of the match. Some Cameroonian artistes will be on stage to entertain the public.
