GICAM: General Assembly Endorses Merger

This was during the general assembly meeting that took place in Douala on July 11, 2023.

The Cameroon Inter-Employer Group (GICAM) has voted to merge with Enterprises Cameroon (ECAM) to better support Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises (SMEs). This merger was sealed during the general assembly meeting of GICAM that took place in Douala on July 11, 2023. The General Assembly meeting that had only the merger on the agenda was attended by members of GICAM and other observers. During the assembly, members gave a 73.7 per cent vote for a meager. Out of the 329 members who voted, 241 voted for while 86 voted against with two null votes. For the President of GICAM, Celestin Tawamba, it was time to work harder to reinforce support to SMEs. He said all views will be respected and they will address all the concerns raised. He added that they have chosen reforms as proposed by the general assembly. As such, they will not betray the trust. He said the terms of the merger will be respected. To him, the merger is a booster to work harder to improve on the private sector.
