Akomnyada: Helping Yaounde Curb Water Shortage

Yaounde should be breathing well as the supply of water, which many say is life, is constantly being upped by the Government in the capital city. When Yaounde and its habitants were faced with the problem of acute water shortage, Government swiftly jerked into action to remedy the situation. One of the emergency transitional measures was the first extension of the water treatment plant of Akomnyada in the Nyong & So'o Division of the Centre Region.
The project of the extension of the Akomnyada water treatment facility which started on June 22, 2015, cost some FCFA 42.1 billion provided by the State of Cameroon, CAMWATER and Eximbank USA. While Cameroon doled out some FCFA 10 billion for the project, Eximbank USA made available slightly over FCFA 30 billion and the rest was borne by CAMWATER.
Following the end of technical trials on water from the Nyong River, the extended Akomnyada water station constructed by Geofor Company has started producing 35,000 m3 per day, a quantity of potable water which goes a long way to offset water shortages in the city of Yaounde.
