Biodiversity Mainstreaming: Government Gets Commitment Of Councils

A workshop to develop a sustainable tourism programme for local council development took place in Yaounde, Monday October 30, 2017.

 

Government has obtained the commitment of officials of local councils and other key stakeholders on mainstreaming biodiversity in local development programmes through the sustainable tourism sector. The action was reached following a national workshop which took place in Yaounde, Monday October 30, 2017.   
While chairing the opening ceremony of the workshop, the Minister of Environment, Protection of Nature and Sustainable Development, Hele Pierre said they took the move as a response to a national commitment under the 2016 Cancun Declaration on Mainstreaming Biodiversity. Basking on the need to strategically build consensus amongst stakeholders to promote sustainable tourism, the Minister said it was necessary to integrate biodiversity for the wellbeing of the people.
