Presidential Election: Rights Commission Calls For Preservation Of Peace

The National Commission on Human Rights and Freedoms has issued a statement after observing the October 7, 2018 presidential election.
Cameroon’s National Commission on Human Rights and Freedoms invites all citizens of the country to await in peace and serenity for the proclamation of the results of the presidential election of October 7, 2018 and to work at the same time for the preservation of peace and stability of Cameroon. The Chairman of the Commission, Dr Chemuta Divine Banda in a statement issued on October 15, 2018 said peace and stability were essential conditions to the full exercise of rights and freedoms.
The Commission deployed 180 election observers in some localities of the national territory. The National Commission on Human Rights and Freedoms started observing the electoral process right from the pre-electoral phase. It noted with satisfaction the role played by the Constitutional Council in examining complaints lodged by certain representatives of political parties whose candidatures were rejected by the Electoral Board of Elections Cameroon (ELECAM).
