Scientific Research & Innovation: Gov’t To Open ‘Cameroon Silicon Valley’

Minister Dr. Madaleine Tchuinte made the announcement after presenting a budget of FCFA 11.916 billion to the National Assembly’s Finance and Budget Commission, Saturday November 24.
Government intends to create a technology ecosystem in the city of Yaounde next year, the Minister of Scientific Research and Innovation, Dr. Madaleine Tchuinte has disclosed. She made the announcement on Saturday November 24, 2018, after presenting a budget of FCFA 11.916 billion to the National Assembly’s Finance and Budget Commission. To be known as the ‘Cameroon Silicon Valley’, the hub will be home to young techies, tech startups and a breeding ground for a budding community of developers, designers and tech business professionals. The new tech hub is modelled from Buea’s Silicon Mountain and will serve tech enthusiasts from across the country. The Minister told reporters that their focus in 2019 will be the densification of research and development as well as the promotion of innovation. “The year 2019 shall be marked by the pursuit of the quest for more performance. The valorization of scien tific research results, the enhancement of innovation and technological development shall be our priorities,” Dr. Tchuinte said.
