Youth Affairs & Civic Education: Focus On Countering Violent Extremism

With a budget allocation of FCFA 15.605 billion, the ministry will prioritise three strategic programmes including governance and institutional support and socio-economic integration.

The Ministry of Youth Affairs and Civic Education has presented to the National Assembly’s Committee on Finance and Budget a draft budget of FCFA 15.605 billion for next year. Minister Mounouna Foutsou, who faced the Committee on Monday November 26, 2018, said the ministry will continue pursuing three strategic programmes: civic education and national integration, youth socio-economic integration, as well as governance and institutional support. According to the Mminister, the country is witnessing an upsurge in uncivil behaviour, a deterioration of public morals and a worsening of the risk of enlistment in violent extremist groups. “There is therefore need to focus our intervention on hedging both youths and adults from any form of engagement in violent extremism, to ease the possibilities for social reintegration of those who have been in contact with violent extremism, encourage youths to commit themselves in volunteering activities and community interest actions,” Mounouna Foutsou said.
