Littoral: Crackdown On Illegal Optical Centres Continues

About 15 of such centres have so far been sealed with the help of administrative authorities.
Proprietors of illegal optical centres in Wouri Division of the Littoral Region are restless following the ongoing sealing exercise by the National Order of Opticians, accompanied by administrative authorities and security men. According to the Littoral Regional Representative of the National Order of Opticians, Serge Mossoue, more than half of the over 100 optical centres in Wouri are operating illegally.
Going by Law 99 of 7 April 1999, optical centres must obtain authorisation from the Ministry of Public Health to operate, recruit trained opticians and be registered with the National Order of Opticians. Mossoue disclosed that they lay emphasis on equipment and office space; while the site must be at least 200 metres from the next optical centre. “With the help of the authorities, we have shut down 15 illegal optical centres,...
