Water, Electricity, gas: Gov’t Working On Strategies To Improve Supply

The Cabinet Meeting held on April 25, 2019 was an occasion to present the strategies and get instructions from the Prime Minister Chief Joseph Dion Ngute.
The government of Cameroon true to the continuous quest to improve on the living conditions of the population and enhance competitiveness, has embarked on drawing up strategies to reduce the cost of water, electricity and gas, as well as electronic communications that comprise telephone, internet and related facilities.
Prime Minister, Head of Government, Chief Joseph Dion Ngute chaired the cabinet meeting on Thursday, April 25, 2019 that focused on two themes. The Minister of Water Resources and Energy, Gaston Eloundou Essomba presented a statement on the theme, “Strategy to reduce the cost of water, electricity and gas, to enhance the competitiveness of the manufacturing industry.”
His colleague of Posts and Telecommunications, Minette Libom Li Likeng Mendomo presented on the “Strategy to reduce the cost of electronic communications, (telephone, internet and related facilities) to enhance the competitiveness of Cameroonian companies.” The Minister of Water Resources and Energy in his statement said the electricity sub-sector with its three separate interconnection grids has a total installed capacity of approximately 1,587 MW. He said electricity access rate was 60 per cent, with the national electricity system supplies of 1,300,000 Low Voltage subscribers and 1,800 Medium Voltage subscribers, mainly composed of industries.
Concerning the water sub sector, he said there was an installed capa city of 731, 080 cubic meters per day, a total storage capacity of 253,374 cubic meters and a production yield of 94.96 per cent. The current deficit, he said is estimated from a consumption of 65 litres of water per urban inhabitant per day thus stands at 501,090 cubic meters...
