Carnet Diplomatique : German Unity Day Celebrated in Yaounde

The 29th Anniversary was an opportunity to reflect on the journey covered.
The Yaounde Hilton Hotel was on Friday, October 4, 2019 full of colour as the diplomatic family, friends and well-wishers came out en masse to celebrate the 29th Anniversary of the German Unity Day. The German Unity Day, instituted in 1990 is to commemorate the reunification of the Federal Republic of Germany (West Germany) and the German Democratic Republic (East Germany) after 45 years of separation. This year’s celebration under the motto “Courage Connects”, was an opportunity to reflect on the progress made in the unification process and the work still to be done.
Speaking during the ceremony the German Ambassador to Cameroon, H. E. Dr Hans Dieter Stell accompanied by the Minister Delegate to the Minister of External Relations in charge of Relations with the Islamic World, Adoum Gargoum, said, the German reunification was possible thanks to the courage of the citizens of East Germany and the confidence of her partner countries in the peaceful development of a United Germany. He added that, it is thanks to this great confidence that Germany was elected a non-permanent member of the Security Council with 95% of United Nations member states.
With regards to relations between Germany and Cameroon, Ambassador Hans said there are several coincidences between the two countries especially in the months of September and October.
