Grand angle : Nomination Fever Gathers Steam

Political parties are fine-tuning strategies and passing through various screening measures to have candidates for the February 9, 2020 twin municipal and legislative elections.
Political parties that want to compete in the February 9, 2020 twin municipal and legislative elections are fully aware of the provisions of the Electoral Code that give them up to November 25, 2019 to submit nomination papers of their candidates at Elections Cameroon (ELECAM). President Paul Biya convened the electorate to the polls for the twin elections on November 10, 2019 and for the legislative election, Section 164 (1) of the Electoral Code provides that, “Candidatures shall, within 15 days from the convening of the electorate, be made out in nomination paper in triplicate, bearing the legalised signature of candidates.”
Cognizant of the law, party officials are using the various screening methods contained in the parties texts to select the best candidates but the candidates must be trustworthy and up to date members of the parties. It was for this reason that there is hustling and bustling in the General Secretariat of the ruling Cameroon People’s Democratic Movement (CPDM) in Yaounde. On November 13, 2019, the Recovery Service was the heartbeat of activities. Party members filled the Service Head’s office and his secretariat paying the different contributions in order to qualify for nomination. The Recovery Service Head, Abraham Zoua-Houli told Cameroon Tribune by midday that the CPDM National President, Paul Biya in the decision of June 25, 2012 fixed the rates of special monthly contributions which party officials have to pay. Therefore, the officials found in the different categories were rushing in with their contributes in order to normalise their financial status before the nomination of candidates for the twin municipal and legislative elections.
