Coronavirus : Catholic Christians Implore Divine Intervention

The arch bishop of Douala, Kleda on Friday March 20th celebrated a mass at the Saints Peter and Paul Cathedral in Douala to implore God’s intervention to save Cameroonians from the deadly corona virus pandemic. In his sermon, the arch bishop insisted on love for one another saying love for God is love for one another. That when you love someone, you won’t contaminate him, advising Christians to respect the WHO precautions and government measurers so as to avoid the spread of the disease. “Doing evil to another is harming oneself”, he said.
The mass saw a demonstration of measures put in place by the Catholic Church in Douala to prevent the spread of the disease. For instance, the Christians were given sterilisers at the entrance to church and at the time of communion. The cathedral was scanty as people sat at about one meter away from each other and communion was given exclusively on the hand. There were no handshakes or hugs during the “peace be with you” moment. Quizzed on these measures, the arch bishop said the liturgy recommends handshakes or hugs only if convenient and the receiving of communion both with the hand and the mouth was a decision of the Episcopal conference and that given the prevailing circumstances, it will be advisable for these practices to be suspended for now.
