Management of Ships’ Ballast Water and Sediments : Bill On Highest Maritime Safety Defended

Within the framework of ensuring highest practicable standards of maritime safety and security, the Minister of Transport, Jean Ernest Massena Ngalle Bibehe on March 30, 2020 defended bill No 1067/PJL/AN to authorise the President of the Republic to proceed with Cameroon’s accession to the international convention for the control and management of ships’ ballast water and sediments adopted in London, England on February 13, 2004.  He presented and defended the draft bill before the Foreign Affairs Committee of the National Assembly accompanied by the Minister of External Relations, Mbella Mbella in the presence of the Minister Delegate at the Presidency in charge of Relations with the Assemblies, Bolvine Wakata.  
The objective of the bill, the Minister stated, is to prevent, minimize and ultimately eliminate the transfer of harmful aquatic organisms and pathogens through the control and management of ships’ ballast water and sediments.
