Diplomacy : Making Cameroon’s Presence Felt

Thanks to the shrewd diplomatic policy spearheaded by the Head of State, the country in 2020 continued to ascertain her viability and agility - Grabbing several global prestigious jobs.

Keeping true to its diplomatic policy of non-interference in the internal affairs of partner countries but being constant on any business of common good, Cameroon in 2020 like before, remained resolute in putting everything in place to make its voice heard. In fact, proposing areas of reflection that should help build a better and solid international society drove the country’s diplomacy with so much to show on the ground. 
Besides ratifying some international instruments and amending others where necessary, the country showed proof of determination to be constantly present where and when a sense of dialogue, negotiation, respect of the sovereignty and integrity of States was sought. For, Yaounde considers these values as cardinal for democracy and respect for international law.
Partnering For Convenient Vaccination 
President Paul Biya, on behalf of Cameroon, during the London Global Vaccine Summit which held via videoconference in August 2020 contributed one million dollars (about FCFA 600 million) for the Global Alliance for Vaccines and Immunisation. Doing so at the time the global scientific community is full-drawn to get medication for the ravaging Coronavirus pandemic is illustrative of President Paul Biya’s determination to partner with the rest of the world in seeking a final solution to the destroyer as well as pre-empting others. The gesture, saluted by stakeholders, demonstrated the unrelenting attentiveness of Cameroon and her leader each time issues of common interest; especially health, are at stake. 
Penetrating International Civil Protection
History now holds that Cameroon is the first country in the world to present a lady as Secretary General of the International Civil Protection Organisation. In effect, Cameroonian-born Yap Mariatou today sits as the first lady to be Secretary General of the organisation. As Secretary General, in other words, the main technical and administrative officer of the International Civil Protection Organization, the Cameroonian Professor of Earth Sciences can therefore carry out her project of restoring the core values of the organisation.
