Using Sports To Promote Tourist Destinations
The Minister of Tourism and Leisure and his colleague of Communication granted a press conference in Yaounde yesterday.
The United Nations World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO) and the International Olympic Organisation in 1999 agreed that sports and tourism are two complementary activities with potential to unite people all over the world while promoting the destination of countries. It was within this precinct that the Ministry of Tourism and Leisure, on November 21, 2016, organised a conference in Yaounde on; “Women, Sports and Tourism: Sports Events and the Promotion of African Destinations.” The conference coincided with the visit of the United Nations World Tourism Organisation Secretary General, Taleb Rifai, from November 19-22, 2016, at the invitation of the Head of State, Paul Biya.
The Minister of State, Minister of Tourism and Leisure, Bello Bouba Maïgari at a press conference in Yaounde on December 27, 2016, said women have a deserved part and responsibility in sports and tourism. He stated that the visit of Taleb Rifai to Cameroon was in itself historic, given that it was the first time the country was hosting an august guest in the tourism sector of that calibre.
