Seminars to skill up personnel, office space occupied and plans for a budget session in no distant future are some of the mile posts crossed.
An edifice is as strong as its foundation, says the old adage. In this vein, the new Regional Executive Assembly (Council) has spent their first 100 days in office. Their electorate, and the general public are expecting physical achievements in terms of development. But the train is still steaming to take off. Sources say the executive is laying the foundation for a solid structure.
However, three dates are already in the history records to buttress the new structure that has come to spearhead development at the regional level. Today, some 100 days away, public patience is already stretching out to savour the first development project realized with the mark of the South West Regional Assembly. It is called Assembly west of the Mungo for their Special Status and Regional Council east of the Mungo. Such expected realisations in terms of public development needs include road construction, electricity stability and sufficient supply, flowing water taps, school construction and meaningful enforcement of hygiene.
No such landmark achievement can be counted yet in any of the six administrative Divisions of Lebialem, Kupe Muanenguba, Manyu, Meme, Ndian and Fako in the South West Region. These are the areas that sent in 70 members for the Regional House of divisional representatives and 20 traditional rulers for the House of Chiefs to form the 90 seats of the Regional Assembly.
