Cameroon-United Nations Cooperation : Focus On Stability, Recovery In Crisis Zones

External Relations Minister on October 5, 2021 received two senior UN officials in audience, in the course of which the wellbeing of the population was discussed.
The Minister of External Relations, Mbella Mbella on October 5, 2021 granted two separate audiences to United Nations officials who were in Cameroon for the third Lake Chad Basin Governors’ Forum which held on October 4 and 5, 2021. The two senior UN officials included; United Nations Assistant Secretary-General and UNDP Assistant Administrator and Regional Director for Africa, Ahunna Eziakonwa, and Regional Director for the United Nations Populations Fund (UNFPA) West and Central Africa Regional Office, Argentina Matavel Piccin. The wellbeing of the population in the Lake Chad Basin area which is confronted with multidimensional crisis was at the centre of both audiences.
In her statement to reporters, Ahunna Eziakonwa appreciated the manner in which Cameroon hosted the Lake Chad Basin Governors’ Forum in a difficult context marked by the Covid-19. “We both appreciated the fact that this forum is extremely important in the efforts to ensure stability in the region and also to support the population. We also spoke about the situation in the North West and South West Regions of Cameroon, and appreciated the collaboration that exists between the UNDP and the government in support of recovery efforts in the affected regions, she stated. Cameroon potentials in contributing to mitigating the effects of climate change, preservation of the Congo Basin, and the forth coming COP26 to be held in Glasgow, are other topics the UNDP senior official said she discussed with Minister Mbella Mbella. She further stated that she exchanged with the Minister on the possibilities of digital transformation in Cameroon, investing in the sector to accelerate development especially among the youth.
