Kenya : Bill Examination Degenerates To Brawl

This was during a debate on Wednesday by lawmakers on a coalition bill at the August House.

Kenyans have once more been taken aback after washing the horrible show put on by some members of Parliament during a Parliamentary session on Wednesday, 29 December 2021. During a debate on a coalition bill governing political parties ahead of next year’s elections, tempers flared with two representatives of people exchanging punches while others trade insults at the August House (Kenya’s Parliament). Unable to control the situation, the announcer briefly suspended the session. One of the legislators, Bernard Koros, was injured during the altercation and was seen with blood dripping down his face, while another was expelled and suspended from parliament for five consecutive sittings by the session Chair, Chris Omulele.
The fighting broke out after hours of heated debate over the bill, which contains amendments to the laws governing political parties and the registration of coalition groupings for elections.
The legislation would allow a coalition of parties to run a candidate in elections, a departure from current law that requires a candidate to belong to a party or be independent to compete for a seat. 
Opponents of the proposals argue that President Uhuru Kenyatta and his former political rival Raila Odinga will use them to build a formidable coalition ahead of the August 9, 2022 election.
Although Odinga is apparently an opposition leader, he and Kenyatta declared a truce with a handshake that made headlines in 2018 after deadly post-election clashes the previous year....
