Human Rights : Cameroon Seeks International Visibility

Some international NGOs, political parties and home-based organisations are seemingly committed to tarnish the image of Cameroon.
Cameroon in 2022 is committed to consolidate the trust it enjoys from its partners, especially in its constant efforts to ensure that the country remains a haven of peace and stability that has always been. This has to be done by stepping up the efforts against terrorism with much attention paid on respecting human rights.
The Head of State, President Paul Biya in his New Year message to the nation on December 31, 2021 talking about the fight against terrorism declared, “In this fight against terrorism, we plan to enlist the support of a wide range of partner States by debunking falsehood about the country’s human rights situation propagated within international circles by some of Cameroon’s detractors.” Cameroon at moment faces security challenges and is fighting the Boko Haram terrorist insurgents in the Far North Region and the armed separatists groups in the North West and South West Regions.
The country’s detractors have used the occasion of the efforts to bring back peace and normalcy in the crisis-affected regions to propagate false and fake information using the social media and messages addressed to international organisations on the violation of human rights by the defence and security forces on the field. Non-governmental Organisations such as Human Rights Watch, Amnesty International, International Crisis Group and others have been at the fore front with somehow exaggerated reports on how Cameroon’s defence and security forces have been committing human rights violations as they fight Boko Haram terrorists and armed separatists. As both international and national NGOs propagate fake information intended to taint Cameroon’s human rights records, some organisations own by Cameroonians based abroad such as the separatist movement in the English-speaking North West and South West Regions have on their part been visiting international organisations and foreign countrie...
