Health: Watch Out Against Seasonal Diseases!

Cough, catarrh, sinuses and other airborne diseases are most common during dry season.

There is a disturbing rise in cough and colds in Douala. During the dry season, respiratory diseases is usually the experience of many people as temperatures rise may become severe. Dry season in Cameroon falls within mid-November through to December, January, February and ends around mid-March. The city being an industrial hub suffers some degree of air pollution which together with the rising temperatures that usually become severe from February render many people susceptible to cough, catarrh, sinuses and other airborne diseases that are common which people need to watch out for.
“I have in the past two weeks been suffering from cough and catarrh. My nostrils tend to leak and throat irritate. I first took over-the-counter medications, but this did not work for me. I sought the help of my relative who is a medical professional. Even the drugs she prescribed didn’t do any better. Friends advised me to prepare a concoction of lime and honey in hot water. I take it every morning and today my health situation is better,” says R. Asong.
“For about a week now I have caught a cold and cough. I was feeling weak around my body as a result. This situation forced me to see medical attention at a local hospital.
