Good Signs…

The Ethiopian Civil war is now several months old and the death toll as well as material damages has been enormous on both sides.

Several calls have been made both in and out of the country for the different belligerents to drop weapons and give dialogue a chance by sitting on a negotiation table, but these calls have landed on deaf ears with both parties camping on their “Would Win Strategy.” This type of defiance which has made it extremely difficult to book an appointment with any of the faction leaders or representatives seems to be given way as there are great signs of possible drive towards a cease-fire in Tigray.
Evident is the multiplication of visits since last week and the resumption of mediation by the African Union led by Olusegun Obasanjo between the government and the TPLF rebellion, the arrival of David Satterfield, new special envoy of US President, Joe Biden in Addis Ababa on Sunday, February 13 for a 48-hour visit during which he met with the government, the UN, the African Union and humanitarians are good signs that the highly awaited road map towards a durable cease-fire is in the horizon.
