Professionalising Teaching : Time To Accelerate Pace

For the youth to benefit from the employment opportunities in the job market, professionalization of teaching has to be stepped up.
The job market offers diverse opportunities in the fields of digital technology, science, technology as well as management and only the most competitive job seekers can benefit from the opportunities. This has to obviously pass through accelerated and more adapted professionalization of teaching both in public and private institutions of learning.
The Head of State, President Paul Biya in his Youth Day message on the eve of the celebration of the 56th edition of the event on February 10, 2022 acknowledged that, “The availability of high quality skills that would address new development needs is one of the major challenges currently facing our country.” As for the solution to the development needs, President Biya stated, “We must expand our training offer to provide all young people with the opportunity to acquire useful and relevant skills that would open up employment opportunities in every sphere.” Considering the permanent evolution in employment avenues, the Head of State specifically said, “As you are aware, today’s new global economy is digitally oriented, thus urging us to encourage young people to seize all the opportunities offered by digital communications, through their socioeconomic adaptation and application.”
To enable young Cameroonians from the 10 Regions of the country to have access to professional training, President Paul Biya on January 5, 2022 created the State Universities of Bertoua, Ebolowa and Garoua. The new universities come to the already existing eight. Each of the State universities has professional institutions in diverse fields attached to it. Government has also authorise the functioning of many private higher institutions of learning with many of them offering professional courses.
Public and private professional institutions of learning abound in Cameroon. They propose ambitious programmes whose effective teaching with constant adaptation to the needs of the job market both in Cameroon and elsewhere would make the country a professionalization Eldorado and haven.
