Interview: “We Are Going To The Sixth Region”

For how long has American football been existing in the country and in how many regions is it practiced?
Since 2018 the Cameroon American Football Federation has been organising championships and has been participating in Cups of Cameroon. The last edition was the Cup of Cameroon presided over by the Prime Minister who was representing the Head of State and the Cameroon American Football Federation was present.

We are hoping that this year if there is a Cup of Cameroon, the Cameroon American Football Federation will organise competitions that will lead up to that. But at this point in time given the COVID-19 context and also the health climate it is very difficult. In sports it is not just when we practice sports. There is also the corporate and public relations part of it which means there are events that are going on at the internal level which Cameroon is participating. There are some international requirements and Cameroon is doing everything to make sure that they adhere to the rules and regulations that govern the sports of American football.

What are the steps taken by the federation to ensure that the sports discipline is practiced in all the regions of the country?        
Cameroon has a great amount of players who play American football in Europe, Canada and the USA. In the National Football League (NFL) which is the higher level of professionalism of American football. The NFL hosts the highest sports entertainment event in the world which is called the Super Bowl. Last year, a Cameroonian played in the Super Bowl by name Ndamoukong Suh with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and they won.

Right now we have close to eight players that play in eight different teams in the NFL. We have players that play in Europe, Asia and especially Germany, France and the UK. In Canada we can say we have countless numbers of guys that play Ame...
