AFCON 2021 Success : Gratitude Of Senate To Head of State

The eldest member of the Senate expressed the appreciation during the opening plenary sitting of the March 2022 ordinary session.

The eldest member of the Senate, Senator Isabelle Tokpanou on behalf of the entire Upper House of Parliament has expressed gratitude to the Head of State, President Paul Biya for the resounding success of the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2021 Cameroon organised from January 9 to February 6, 2022. She said the event enabled the Head of State to offer the gifts of stadiums and equipment to young Cameroonians.
Senator Isabelle Takpanou who is heading the provisional bureau of the Senate until the election of the permanent bureau for 2022 legislative year, spoke as she presided at the opening plenary sitting of the House on March 11, 2022. The Prime Minister, Head of Government, Joseph Dion Ngute headed the government bench during the event. He listened to Isabelle Tokpanou congratulate him and the entire organising committee of AFCON 2021 for the work done and especially the warm welcome that was reserved for the distinguished guests and all those who came to Cameroon for the event. The opening plenary session came on the heels of the celebration of the 37th edition of the International Women’s Day on March 8, 2022.  She said it allowed Cameroonian women under the auspice of the First Lady, Mrs Chantal Biya, to join their sisters from all over the world to fight discrimination against girls and women and, in so doing, to strengthen measures aimed at gender equality and women’s empowerment.”
The eldest member of the Senate said that once the permanent bureau is elected and the nine General Committees constituted, Senators would have to resume their constitutional missions of voting laws and controlling government action with usual commitment and sense of responsibility.
