Dialogue Remains Key To Success

Prime Minister, Head of Government, Joseph Dion Ngute on March 18, 2022 presided at a consultation meeting that brought together government officials, representatives of employer organisations and those of consumer associations in order to seek solutions to current hikes in prices of some basic commodities, scarcity of some raw materials, protect local industries and enterprises and general difficult living conditions.
After x-raying the situation which got bad due to the Covid-19 pandemic and now aggravated by the ongoing war in Ukraine, focus was on examining solutions. At the end of the meeting the general conclusion was that permanent dialogue should be instituted to seek concerted solutions to the difficulties. The Minister of Finance Louis Paul Motaze proposed that consultation meetings henceforth be organised with different sectors following a clearly defined timetable so that the difficulties of each sector be  properly diagnosed  and appropriate solutions proposed.  The Minister Delegate to the Minister of Economy, Planning and Regional Development, Paul Tasong presented a series of measures envisaged to tackle the situation but stated that proper studies on impact per sector has to be done.
The President of Employers Association (GICAM) Celestin Tawamba speaking on behalf of the enterprises said they want to be on the side of government in order to boost resilience of the country faced with the uncertainties imposed by the external factors. He acknowledged government efforts to support local enterprises through tax exonerations, subventions on fuel prices and other incentives.
