Ensuring Security : Tackling Dangers of Cyberspace

Minister Joseph Beti Assomo yesterday April 28, 2022 presided at the opening of an international symposium on handling the potential threats that accompany digitalisation.
Security officers, researchers and experts of information and communication technologies have met in an international symposium in Yaounde and critically assessed the consequences of the globalisation. Organised by the International School for Security Forces (EIFORCES) and funded by the government of Cameroon, the Minister Delegate at the Presidency in charge of Defence, Joseph Beti Assomo and Board Chair of EIFORCES on April 28, 2022 presided at the opening of the two-day colloquium on the theme, “Cyber mediocracy and security threats: stakes, challenges and response in the age of digitalisation.”
Minister Joseph Beti Assomo in his opening statement said the international symposium takes into account the security challenges faced by African countries. The advent of the social media, adding to the traditional media, the Minister stated, has made the world a global village, where unfortunately everything and anything is being shared whether true of false, good or bad. The Minister added that the abusive use of information and communication technologies, has produced hate speech, spread of fake news, verbal attacks, cybercrimes and other actions which impact human security. Making reference to the Head of State’s address to the youths on February 11, 2022 in which he called on the responsible use of the social media, Minister Joseph Beti Assomo said the security threats on the abusive use of the social media are intense, sometimes affecting sovereignty of a State, security of persons and property.
