National Assembly : African Civil Aviation Commission Bill Tabled

The bill was tabled during the plenary sitting of the National Assembly on June 8, 2022.
Members of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the National Assembly will in the coming days study the bill to authorise the President of the Republic to ratify the revised Constitution of the African Civil Aviation Commission (AFCAC), adopted in Dakar, Senegal on 16 December 2009.
Before the bill was tabled in the plenary sitting, the Speaker of the National Assembly, Hon. Cavaye Yeguie Djibril in his office presided at the Chairmen’s Conference that found the bill admissible. It was sent to the Foreign Affairs Committee for scrutiny. The Senior Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly, Hon. Hilarion Etong presided at the plenary sitting during which the bill was tabled. He said it will be defended at the Foreign Affairs Committee by the Minister of Transport assisted by the Minister of External Relations.
African Civil Aviation Commission (AFCAC), founded in 1964 and established in 1969 aims to promote the safe, secure and harmonious development of civil aviation in Africa. Its revised constitution modifies membership criteria by defining Member State as an African State that has signed or ratified/acceded to the AFCAC constitution. It restricts the terms of membership which, in 1969, was extended to African member States of the ECA or Organisation of African Unity (OAU).
