Heavy Downpour In Fako Division : One Dead In Mutengene

The damage caused on infrastructure and other property is enormous as over 3,000 fowls perished in a poultry farm in Tiko.

Buea, Limbe, Tiko and Mutengene in Fako Division were on Saturday July 9, 2022 hit hard by torrential downpour which inundated the towns and caused huge damage. The rain which started lightly on Friday July 8, 2022, about 6 pm became heavy in the early hours of Saturday. 
Tiko Community Radio reported that Maurice Nled, 12-year-old pupil died at Teris Street in Quarter One Mutengene when a fence collapsed on their house. The child's parents who sustained injuries are hospitalised. Part of Mutengene Police College fence collapsed too. Likomba Ndongo River over flew its banks and carried away a house that served as a bar. At Tiko Roundabout, a building around the bridge where a swimming pool that was under construction got destroyed and swept away. The water flooded the Tiko Airport Hotel area and destroyed many fences. At Down Beach Tiko, a poultry farm with over 3,000 fowls perished in flood.
It was a difficult situation at Miselelle around the Police Control Post. Water prevented the Miselelle Saturday Market from holding. Around Camp Seven where a new bridge was under construction on the Tiko Douala carriageway, the powerful rushing water disrupted work. It carried away a caterpillar, container with several working tools inside and other personal belongings of workers. 
Voh Armstrong, Divisional Officer for Tiko, who went down to the field observed with sadness the level of destruction.
