Chad : Inclusive National Dialogue Date Set

After several postponements, the long-awaited national reconciliation forum will hold from August 20, 2022 in N’Djamena.
Chadian authorities have announced the holding of National Reconciliation Dialogue from August 20, 2022. The information was made public on Thursday, July 14, 2022 following a decree signed by the Prime Minister of the Transitional Military Council (TMC), Albert Pahimi Padacke. The National Reconciliatory Dialogue is one of the major promises made by President Mahamat Idriss Deby as a prerequisite to the organisation of elections aimed at transferring power to a civilian rule.
When the TMC took over power last year it said, it would oversee an 18-month transition to democratic rule, but it has shown little sign of organising elections as the deadline nears. This has ignited pressure from opposition groups within Chad and other Western countries mostly partners in the fight against armed groups in the Sahel region who are demanding the acceleration of the transition process and respect of the initial commitments made by the TMC leaders to the citizens of Chad not to stand for future elections.
The decision by Chadian authorities comes at a time when the ongoing talks in Doha (Qatar) between the military government and dozens of opposition groups have witnessed a stalemate.
