Burkina Faso : ECOWAS, Government Hold Talks

The meeting that took place in Ouagadougou on July 24, 2022 enabled the regional bloc to evaluate what has been done since the July Accra Summit.
A delegation of the Economic Community of West Africa States (ECOWAS), headed by Guinea-Bissau President, Umaro Sissoco Embalo has held discussions with Burkina Faso transitional authorities. The talks that took place on Sunday, July 24, 2022 focused on the assessment of the transition process since the last Accra Summit. Speaking at the end of their evaluation meeting with the country’s transitional President, Lieutenant Colonel Paul-Henri Sandaogo Damiba, the President of the Conference of Heads of State of ECOWAS, Umaro Sissoco Embalo confirmed the 24-month period granted to the Burkinabe soldiers to hand over power to civilians. “We had very good discussions with the Burkinabe authorities. We made assessments on how the progress of the commitments that have been made since the conference of Heads of State and governments”, declared President Embalo.
President Embalo also stressed that the Burkinabe authorities have also shown what their vision is and what the transitional government must focus on. To him, the most important axes of the transition are the security challenge, humanitarian issues, the return to constitutional order, the mobilization of resources and the establishment of monitoring and evaluation mechanisms.
