Awa FC : Irresistible Warriors

The Yaounde-based club won the 2022 Guinness Super League with 58 points, 14 points ahead of direct followers, Amazones FAP.

AS Awa FC has once more proven that they are the leaders of female football in Cameroon. The Yaounde-based club are proud winners of the two editions of the Guinness Super League in Cameroon. The second edition of the competition which ended recently saw the club once more breaking records and taking home a cheque of FCFA 21 million. Already guaranteed to lift the trophy for the second consecutive time three playing days to the end, the warriors of Awa ended the 2022 season with a revenge victory against Amazones FAP (3-2).

It should be recalled that Amazones FAP is one of the two clubs that defeated Awa in the just-ended season. Apart from the two defeats, Awa drew one of its matches and won 19. This performance gives them a total of 58 points; the highest number of points recorded by a club in the same season in the national women’s division one championship, reports have confirmed. The 58 points put Awa 14 points ahead of direct followers, Amazones Fap with 44 points.

Going by compartments, Awa finished the championship with the best attack given that the girls of Hassan Balla Ibrahim were capable of scoring 66 goals in 22 matches. Averagely, Awa scored a total of three goals per match. No team has ever reached this number of goals (66) in one season. Louves Minproff that had held the championship hostage before the surfacing Awa on the leading role, had come close with 63 goals in one edition.
