2022 Handball AFCON : 19 Lionesses Shortlisted For Preparations

The players are expected at FECAHAND’s headquarters in Yaounde today October 6, 2022 for camping modalities.

In preparation for the 2022 Senior Women’s Handball Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) billed for November 9-19, 2022 in Dakar, Senegal, some 19 shortlisted Lionesses are about to begin training ahead of the continental showpiece. The shortlist made up of mainly local players was made public on October 2, 2022 in a communique signed by the President of the Cameroon Handball Federation (FECAHAND), Raymond Mbita Mvaebeme. According to the release, the players are expected at the federation’s headquarters today, October 6, 2022 for camping modalities. 
Going by Head Coach Serge Guebogo, about six of the players have never played for the senior national team but have been pre-selected at least once. The current list, it should be said, is similar to the shortlist of the Islamic Solidarity Games, Konya in which Cameroon clinched a bronze medal.
At the goalpost, Linda Awu Bessong and Gaelle Megaptche will be bracing up ahead of the competition. These goalkeepers who play for FAP Handball Club and TKC Handball club respectively are not novices in this post and have defended the colours of Cameroon in some international competitions. As for back players, 10 lionesses were shortlisted. Among the players are FAP’s Michelle Essam Anne and Petronie Ateba Engadi (DGSP, Congo).
