Peace, Social Cohesion : Religious Denominations Seek Common Goal

An interreligious forum on peace is currently taking place in Yaounde. This is within activities to commemorate the 26th edition of the protestant week on October 30, 2022.

Members of different religious bodies are currently sitting around the same table to discuss how the body of Christ can contribute in bringing the much desired peace the country needs at the moment. This is within a three-day interreligious forum on peace, social cohesion and strategic Advocacy. Organised by the Council of Protestant Churches of Cameroon (CPCC), the forum which ends today, is part of activities to commemorate the 26th edition of the Protestant Week slated from October 10 to the 30, nationwide on the theme, “God is the source of all comfort in times of trouble (II Corinthians 1:4).”
The Secretary General of the Council of Protestant Churches of Cameroon, Reverend Paul Ngando Mbende, said headlines of different articles in newspapers have questioned what religious denominations can do to promote peace in the country. According to him, it is within the context of such write-ups that men of God have decided to reawaken their divine mission especially as some have decided to act like animals in their relationships with their fellow human beings. Rev Paul Ngando Mbende said it is time for religious authorities to recall the importance of peace in the development of the country.  The Secretary General of the CPCC said in spite of all the efforts carried out by different religious groups, the so-called “Anglophone” crisis still persists, thus the urgent need to act in order to trigger mechanism of behavioural changes for peace within the population and the environment as well. Reverend Paul Ngando Mbende said CPCC has adopted a methodological approach that complements existing actions on conflict prevention and analysis. “The concept, entitled “Do Not Harm”, needs to be popularised, so that it finds its most worthy ambassadors in various grassroots communities,” he added.
