2022/2023 MTN Elite One : Astres-Union Opener Tomorrow

The 2022/2023 MTN Elite One season kicks off this Saturday October 15, 2022 with a derby of the economic capital, Douala. In effect, Les Astres of Douala will log horns with Union Sportive of Douala at the Bepanda Reunification stadium. Beyond the fact that this game opposes two sides of same town, it is equally one which pits two heavyweights looking at past performances and their build-ups ahead of the season.
Qualified for the playoffs in the last edition, Les Astres of Douala lost the semi-finals against Coton Sport of Garoua and went ahead to loss the third place match against Canon Sportif of Yaounde. A performance which remains honourable because the Brazilians of Bependa had all what it took technically to emerge victorious but were floored due to little details. This time around, the club has put all resources together to clinch their maiden title after several weeks of preparation managed by newly appointed head coach, Nicolas Tonye Tonye. The trainer is an old broom in the club which before being appointed head coach, was Technical Director of same club. He is thus aiming to make history as the trainer that will help Astres clinch its first championship title.
