Elections Reporting : Media Professionals Schooled

The Journalists who were selected from six regions of the country acquired basic knowledge on some crucial topics.
Some 40 journalists selected from the North West, South West, Littoral, South, West and Centre regions spent October 10 and 11 in Yaounde to sharpen their skills on Peace and Elections reporting. The two-day workshop organised by the Network of Solidarity, Empowerment and Transformation for All (NewSETA), was characterized by interactive and enriching sessions delivered by seasoned professionals in the various topics.
Holding under the theme, “Media, Peace and Elections”, the Executive Director of NewSETA Ateki SETA said the workshop was intended to build the capacities of journalists to enable them counter narratives against fake news, hate speech among others. Holding at a time when the country is preparing to go to the polls in the next few years, Ateki SETA said that it is the important that the right messages be transmitted to Cameroonians before, during and after the elections. The Chief Executive officer of NewSETA Ateki Seta Caxson noted that peace and elections are very crucial. Hence the need to pass the right messages while using the right tools is primordial. It was against this backdrop that they thought it wise to bring these media people together because of the role they play in their various communities, the Chief Executive officer noted.
On his part, the President of the National Communication Council Joseph Chebongkeng saluted team NewSETA for the wonderful contributions they are making to transform not only the media but the entire country.
