Menstrual Health : Girls Share Experience, Strengthen Knowledge

This is within a forum on menstruation that started yesterday October 19, 2022 at the Yaounde II municipality.

The Network of Young Francophone Volunteers in Cameroon dubbed JVF-Cameroun, in collaboration with La Francophonie has organised the first forum on menstrual health and prevention of unwanted pregnancies in young girls in the Yaounde II Subdivision. Holding under the patronage of the Mayor of the Yaounde II Council, the three-day forum which started on October 19, aims to share experiences, strengthen knowledge and mobilise girls to better understand how to care for their menstrual health in a bid to curb unwanted pregnancies.
While opening the forum, the Representative of the Mayor of Yaounde II, Catherine Zibi, who is the third Deputy Mayor of the municipality, said the council is out to encourage the initiative which falls within the activities of the Council to educate girls in the locality on sexual health. She explained that menstruation is an important stage in the life of any girl and there is need for them to know the ups and downs of adolescence. More especially because at the start of menstruation, a girl develops all what it takes to become pregnant. Hence, the need for her to be guided against unwanted pregnancy. Catherin Zibi also revealed that there are some girls whose menses come with pains. Consequently, parents as well as the girls themselves, need to know what is happening in their system.  This is why, she called on participants to be attentive to what they will learn at the forum.
