Cyber Security : ANTIC Ensuring Safer Cyberspace In Cameroon

A two-day National Cyber Risks Assessment (NCRA) workshop ends today in Yaounde.

The General Manager of the National Agency for Information and Communication Technologies (ANTIC), Professor Ebot Ebot Enaw says his organisation will significantly contribute to a safe and more resilient cyberspace in Cameroon. He was speaking in Yaounde yesterday October 27, 2022 while opening the 2022 National Cyber Risks Assessment (NCRA) workshop.
Speaking to participants from different sectors in the society, Prof Ebot said ANTIC is out to provide the government with a national basis for prioritising investment in national cyber security especially given that critical national infrastructure are under cyber attacks from hackers. He explained that critical infrastructure of a country is essential assets for the proper functioning of any modern economy. Because they contribute to the supply of vital resources and services, such as water, electricity, transport, telecommunications, financial services, without which it is difficult to envisage good living conditions for its citizens.
The protection of critical infrastructure according to Prof. Ebot Ebot is now considered as a global challenge, both for developed countries and for developing ones like Cameroon. With the almost uncontrolled increase in the use of the Internet, cybercrime spares no State. That is why ANTIC carried out an assessment of the risks inherent in national critical infrastructure, in a bid to illustrate the magnitude of the said risks in the country with the increasing use of the Internet. The General Manager of ANTIC revealed that for several years, the country’s cyberspace has been facing regular threats, orchestrated by individuals with not very noble intentions, who spare no means to disturb the order and tranquillity of the populations, and cause maximum damage. “With the growing importance of ICTs in the infrastructure providing vital services and of the increasingly complex national and international criminogenic environment, it is more than ever necessary, to take appropriate measures to secure critical infrastructure”, the General Manager underlined.
