Tuberculosis : Vaccines Available Up To 2023

The government recently received 300,000 doses of the BCG vaccine.
The long-awaited 300,000 doses of the Bacillus Calmette–Guérin vaccine (BCG) in the prevention of tuberculosis (TB) have finally arrived in the country. According to the Minister of Public Health, Manaouda Malachie, the country now has some 1,721,000 additional doses of the BCG vaccine. The Minister of Public Health indicates that the available stock of vaccine will cover the country’s need for BCG for the whole of 2023. This has therefore wiped out any fear of shortage.
According to the National Expanded Programme on Immunization (EPI), the distribution of these vaccines has come to add to what was already distributed last month. All regional and district hospitals are currently receiving their own stock of the vaccine. The EPI says children in Cameroon will once again be able to get the Bacillus Calmette–Guérin vaccine after a short period of absence. But, a few hospitals in the peripheries and some private hospitals which do not generally deal with large crowds of patients still had a few doses of the vaccines. The short period of absence of the vaccines left mothers with no choice other than wait until when the vaccines will be available.
Parents are now hopeful that the arrival of the vaccines will permit their babies to be protected from tuberculosis. According to the World Health Organisation (W.H.O), BCG vaccine is an important childhood vaccine that is given to new-borns at birth,...
