Former Prime Minister Philemon Yang, Members of Government, Judiciary and Military Chiefs took part in an information seminar in Bamenda on November 7, 2022.
The merits of the Office of the Public Independent Conciliator (PIC), as the independent authority to hear, treat complaints and amicably settle disputes between users and regional and council administration was topical during an information seminar for North West elite on November 7, 2022. It was a moment for the pioneer Public Independent Conciliator, Tamfu Simon Fai to reveal that in barely a year since the PIC went functional, the path covered is impressive with some 53 out of about 74 complaints received from users already treated. He revealed that an aggressive communication strategy is on course and helping matters in education and sensitization campaigns to villages with some 18 Councils already visited by PIC teams. Tamfu Simon Fai urged the elite of the region to network for the progress of the region.
Among complaints so far received from users, Tamfu Simon said many are not within the ambit of the PIC because they concern land and chieftaincy disputes, witchcraft allegations and marital problems. It was against this backdrop that Tamfu Simon stressed the role of the PIC in advice, orientation, referral, treatment proper and conciliatory agreements between conflicting parties. The PIC is a product of the Special Status and actions in the course of treating complaints are aimed at guaranteeing the rights and freedoms of the injured party and settle the dispute amicably or prevent its reoccurrence.
