2022 Senior Women’s Handball AFCON : Lionesses Open Campaign Today

Cameroon plays Côte d’Ivoire in the competition which kicks off November 9, 2022 in Dakar, Senegal.


The 25th African Senior Women Nations Cup of Handball begins today November 9, 2022 in Dakar, Senegal. The Lionesses of Cameroon pooled in Group C will kick-off their journey against Côte d’Ivoire, 3 p.m. Cameroon time at Terrain Arena. After this game, the official opening ceremony of the competition begins at 5 p.m. with the official opening match pitting hosts Senegal against Madagascar at 6 p.m.
The Cameroonian team arrived the capital of Senegal on November 7, 2022 and were expected to have a first training session yesterday November 8, 2022 at 2 p.m. Cameroon time. But before taking off for Senegal, Head Coach Serge Guebogo who selected 16 players for this edition began training with a broader team two weeks back. Aware of the calibre of their opponents and with the objective of at least picking up a spot in the semi-finals and qualifying for the World Cup, Coach Serge Guebogo prepared his team consequently. Their first prey will be the Elephants of Côte d’Ivoire and it will be of the interest of the Cameroonian team to win their opener so as to boost their morale. 
Cameroon has never won the competition but are coming into the game as vice champions and bronze medallist of the 2021 Islamic Solidarity Games which held in Konya, Turkey.
