Onboard Book Fair: Over 2,000 People Visit Ship A Day

Holidaymakers in Douala are taking advantage to explore book acquisition opportunities.

 

The largest floating book fair in the world, Logos Hope, has brought knowledge, help and hope to Cameroon. Over 2,000 people, including children, visit the fair onboard an ocean-going-vessel at the Douala Seaport.

Since the 40-year-old vessel anchored at the port on August 12, 2016, most city dwellers have been buying books in subjects ranging from science, technology, sports, hobbies and cookery to philosophy and children’s books. They are also enjoying the opportunity of talking with a multicultural crew or taking part in one of the organisation’s onboard events for adults, children and families. Last Saturday, visitors savoured a mix of live music performed by some artistes at a minimal cost of 500 FCFA.

The opportunity seems to be a welcome relief to several parents and holidaymakers who visit the fair daily for “eye shopping.” Onboard the ship is an international café, over 5,000 books for the family and 400 volunteers from 60 countries, including Cameroon. Many people ...
