Universal Health Coverage : Minister Presents Strides

Public Health Minister, Manaouda Malachie has presented the path covered towards implementing universal health coverage in Cameroon. This was during an exchange forum with Senators on December 2, 2022 presided by Senate Vice President, Laurent Nkodo.
The Minister in his presentation said they are far advanced as concerns the structuring of the project on the aspects concerning studies to be done, orientations to be given and are between two to three years now in the development phase of the project. “SUCAM which is the company that was created to develop this project is working very hard. We have deployed enrolment sites across eight of the 10 regions and we can normally start enrolment for this project,” Minister Manaouda explained. He added that data centres have already been designed and are between 80 to 85 per cent ready. “Palliative measures have however been put in place in case these data centers are not operational in time to enable elements to be registered and permit the project to move forward. At the regulatory and legal level, a draft bill has been prepared and forwarded to the government for consideration,” the Minister revealed, adding that seven draft implementing regulations have equally been proposed.
