All against Angola, the Lionesses came back from the 2022 edition in Senegal with gnashing teeth after failing to revenge the home defeat in 2021.
One of the moments when the Cameroonian sports community may look back and mourn in regrets is the 2022 Women’s Handball Africa Cup of Nations final played on November 19, 2022 in Dakar, Senegal. On that day, Cameroon logged horns against Angola, the same team that overpowered them in the 2021 final in Cameroon to clinch the crown.
The most wanted scenario was that, the Lionesses, meeting this team for the second time in the row, will right the wrongs of their last attempt. But no! It ended in regrets. Angola once again beat Cameroon 29-19 to clinch their fourth title in a row and the fifteenth overall. The win went a long way to buttress the dominance of the Angolan handball women’s team on the continent and gave a green light for handball lovers to begin questioning what is working for the Angolan team that is lacking in that of their peers. Cameroon has never won the AFCON and seem to be contented with just picking qualification for the Women’s Handball World Championship.
