When members of an association are not in unity, the objectives of the union are not attained.
The biblical passage from the book of Matthew 12:25 which says: "Every kingdom divided against itself will be ruined, and every city or household divided against itself will not stand", best describes what is happening in some professional associations in the country today. The recurrent disagreements within professional associations have not only created division amongst members, but has also ruined the purpose for which such associations were ever created.
Since March 2022, unrest has gripped the functioning of the Cameroon Medical Council (CMC), from the time the organisation of an elective General Assembly was cancelled by the Minister of Public Health due to several conflicts within the association. Just like with other associations, problems within the association have not only affected the proper functioning of the body, but also the purpose for which the association was created. According to a medical doctor, the CMC, for example, is out to ensure that medical doctors respect the code of ethics of the profession while serving patients, uphold a high degree of morality, punish those who do not respect the deontology of the profession and regulate the functioning of medical structures in the country. Because members of CMC are at loggerheads, there is nobody to oversee the way medical doctors carryout their duties in the field.
